Editorial

Well it was another busy month Lovelies with lots of exciting things going on. One of the events I enjoyed most this month was attending a Modelling Chocolate Course with the incredibly talented Trina Thompson of Sweet Ruby Cakes. Trina teaches for Whimsical Cakehouse at both Brisbane and Sydney and now you can purchase her online video tutorials through Cake Masters.

Trina is an amazing artist with a fantastic eye and brilliant skills….she also has a wonderful sense of humour!  I attended her Sirens Song course over 2 days.

The photo is deceiving as this little Mermaid is about 2ft tall and yes, mine has massive bazoombas lol! On the second day we finally got our hands on some Modelling Chocolate and can I say…I’m in love!! I know it has its disadvantages in the extremes of our climate but wow!! The benefits far outweigh them. How I wish fondant would shape and blend like MC! I’m so looking forward to playing with it every opportunity I get. AND it tastes fabulous!

Now I just have to get more places stocking it here as it can be impossible to get. But for any of you that love to make figurines but struggle with the limitations of fondant/sugarpaste, I highly recommend you grab some and go crazy. It’s very easy to use, gives fabulous results and is SO forgiving….you don’t like the nose there? Squash it and do it again…no rush…no fuss!

Stay tuned for further updates on my MC love affair and exploration…I wonder what else I can use it for?

It was only after finished University, getting married and having children that I had my first contact with cake decorating, three years ago. I don´t have any formal training in cake decorating (not even a workshop) I am only a self taught cake designer wannabe.

Kitchen Talk

Preggy Belly, Baby Rump, Pets....how do you feel about eating your own...? by MelSugarMama

Baby Bump cakes, baby rumps, babies, pets….I can’t imagine cutting into a cake that looked like my pet cat, or a preggy belly torso? I have to say I would feel iffy to cut a cake that looked like my own tummy (worse with a baby poking out!!!) For that matter even cakes which have the edible image photo of the person on it!!! Of course as a cake maker I have made them happily and will make whatever my customer wants…well…. to an extent – I do have a cut off! Does anyone else feel like this? This is only for discussion – and not meant to offend anyone!
