This month I was going to tell you all about the fabulous courses I did with two amazingly talented and generous decorators during the month, then Australia was hit by a heat wave and I had my first official Cake Disaster!  So I think I’ll let you have a groan or a giggle at my expense and then we’ll finish with the two lovely ladies so we can end on a high note.

Now I know we’ve all done it; read about and looked at, other decorators trials and tribulations in sugar. And I know we’ve probably all said a quick “please don’t let that happen to me” knowing full well that the law of averages clearly states it will.

So yesterday I left here with a perfect life size, cake dumbbell with a figurine of the Birthday boy, and arrived with a droopy, slushy mess full of fingerprints and a lump of cling wrap stuck to the side of it. I was mortified! I knew it would happen one day, but not quite so spectacularly - note to self, don't do gravity defying 3D cakes in 40 degree heat...even if there's air conditioning!  Well, you can imagine...I cried...they insisted it was fine but I was horrified! It went straight into the fridge and I'm anxiously awaiting pics from the party...cringe!

Now I’m certain most of you have heard of both Michelle Rea of Inspired by Michelle and Verusca Walker. Well after much scrimping and saving (and possibly starving my children ahem) I was able to attend Verusca’s ‘Stiletto Shoe’ Class and Michelle’s ‘Decorating Details’ class. I'm a big believer in constant education, and I LOVE making new friends :) These two super talented, super generous Ladies are absolute Cake Rock Stars! I’m hoping to do something a little more in depth with them for the Gazette, in the near future….so stay tuned.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all.

November Interview - Kristen Erich from Bliss Pastry

I am the mother of 4 boys and live in the small town of Deland Florida. During the day I work from home full time for a large medical insurance corporation. My background is quite varied. In my younger days I was a theatre major, heavily involved in community theatre, painting, sketching and writing. My passion for cooking and baking developed after having children and I have spent much time in the kitchen testing and writing recipes.

Cake This Tute

Hello Lovelies,

This month, our tutorials focus on the popular technique of placing patterns within cakes. With these fabulous tutorials, your cake can be as pretty on the inside as outside.

Karen of Karmarie, shows us how she made a beautiful Gender Reveal cake with a hidden love heart inside. We also have a super-easy to follow tutorial by The Cake Fairy, showing us in pictures how to make a gorgeous Rainbow Cake.

We also have a wonderful tutorial by the fabulous Aldoska. She has kindly shared her technique so we can all make a Christmas Cake that will leave the whole street talking! You will be the star of any gathering when your amazing Christmas Tree is revealed inside the cake!

How can you get involved?

If you are planning to use this technique, or if you have tried it already, you can show us the results by posting a cake on CakesDecor.com. Just add a description and tag it with "g102". We will choose some and showcase them in the next issue of our Gazette.

Here are the tutorials:

Cake This Tute Review by Raewyn

As I mentioned in last issue, where possible, I will give the tutorials a test run. This month I tried the Upside Down Ganaching Method. I usually use and LOVE the Inspired by Michelle method so was quite nervous about flipping a cake. Taking into account that any new method seems more complicated than the one you're used to, I still came to the conclusion that it seems to be a lot of work. I have foolishly included a pic of the result....I can hear you laughing you know.
